The White House on Sunday proposed a plan to Congress seeking funds for the construction of border wall with Mexico in return for any immigration deal on protecting “Dreamers,” the undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.

The principles laid out in the documents also press for speedier deportation process of illegal immigrants from the U.S. along with the demand to induct thousands of new immigration officials, writes the BBC.

The proposal irked leading Democrats in Congress and immigration groups that accused the U.S. President Donald Trump of backtracking from his promise of not including border wall in any negotiations over the status of young immigrants, notes Reuters.
