A “new era” is on the horizon as solar power became the fastest growing source of new energy across the world last year, according to the stats shared by the International Energy Agency.

More than 60% of the new power added to the world’s grids last year came from renewable energy, with solar installations contributing a major share of it courtesy favorable government policies and tapering prices, especially in China, notes The Guardian.

According to estimates, the gap in power production from coal and renewables will be reduced to half by 2022, if solar energy growth adheres to current trends, writes Jersey Evening Post.
