If only humans have rights, let’s call rivers a human! That’s the message being propagated by a radical environment group that has filed a federal lawsuit against Governor Hickenlooper demanding that the Colorado River ecosystem should be granted the rights to "exist, flourish, regenerate, be restored, and naturally evolve."

The lawsuit, which names the river ecosystem as the plaintiff, blames abysmal condition of the mighty river on the state’s faulty water management policies and practices that have reduced a life-giving resource to virtually nothingness, writes Tree Hugger.

Apparently, the idea of lawsuit to earn a river personhood sounds frivolous but it spurs progressive thinking towards a highly relevant question whether nature has the right to protect itself, notes 9 News.
