Who, in their wildest of fantasies, would seek citizenship of a nation made purely of floating garbage? British media group LADbible has launched a sassy and apparently “silly and gimmicky” campaign that seeks to have “Trash Isles” recognized by the U.N. as the world’s 196th nation.

The campaigners believe the best way to nudge the world leaders to take note menacing plastic waste is to “stick it in front of their faces,” and oblige them to clean up the “new country,” writes Tree Hugger.

Over the years, a small patch of garbage has swollen into a colossal floating island of trash in the Pacific Ocean, however, it’s interesting to see if this trash patch meets the four conditions for achieving a nationhood, notes Architectural Digest
