A study published in the online journal Ecological Modelling has quantified the economic benefits of green covers in urban landscape, estimating that trees provide services worth $500 million per megacity every year.

The study, which covered 10 cities including Beijing, London and Los Angeles, took into account the economics of all benefits rendered by trees, such as reduction in air pollution, lowering of heating and cooling bills, curb on carbon emissions and others, notes Tree Hugger.

The study testifies how the nature’s free services support our individual and community well-being, giving us yet another reason to reserve areas for green space while planning cities, writes Business Line.
