Amazon, which harbors the plans to “further its clout in the fashion space,” has developed an AI fashion designer that combs through the internet looking for current trends and then applies them to new pieces.

Introduction of machine-learning systems for spotting fashion trends on social media platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest marks a change in the industry, reflecting retailers’ exploratory approach to learn how fashion develops in the world, writes MIT Technology Review.

The algorithm is based on a new technique, called Generative Adversarial Network (GAN), which can draw out a style by learning from raw data, for instance, a batch of images in case of fashion, notes The Verge.
