A team of Swiss researchers has 3D-printed a soft, artificial heart that’s strikingly close to replicating the form and pumping mechanism of a natural heart.

The artificial heart, weighing 390 grams, passed the feasibility tests, however, the material used in its fabrication can survive only 3,000 beats, which is just half an hour of human life, an area that the team seeks to work on, notes Tech Crunch.

The development holds significance as nearly 26 million people worldwide, suffering from heart failures, need artificial blood pumps over the period they wait for donor heart, writes ETH Zurich.
