A British startup, Kite Power Systems, has successfully trialed a smart technology that uses a pair of giant kites to harness wind energy and use it to power generator on the ground.

The mechanism, currently being tested for a 40kW system at an airfield in Scotland, offers an efficient and much cheaper way for use of renewable energy as the installation costs almost half than that in conventional wind turbines, writes Digital Trends.

The hybrid kites, flying at an altitude of over 300 meters, produce constant power with no visual intrusion as in the case of huge wind turbine towers and blades, notes The Indian Express.
