In a revelation that, for the first time, lays direct credence to alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, U.S. President Donald Trump’s son has admitted that he met a Kremlin-linked lawyer during the 2016 campaign.

According to a report in the New York Times, Donald Trump Jr. attended the private meeting along with the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner and then-campaign head Paul J. Manafort after he was promised some “damaging” information about Democratic nominee Hilary Clinton, writes the BBC.

Trump’s son said in a statement that President Trump was not aware of the half-an-hour meeting that took place at Trump Tower on June 9, 2016, notes Reuters. The new revelation deals a big blow to Trump, who has been vehemently rejecting the U.S. intelligence agencies’ claims of Russian meddling in the presidential election.
