A collaborative effort by researchers at Rutgers University in New Jersey and Facebook’s AI lab in California has developed an artificial intelligence system that crafts images in an unconventional but impressive style.

The system comprises two neural nets, with one of them being the generator of images and the other being the discriminator that judges them based on the training acquired by sifting through 81,500 paintings, notes New Scientist.

When human observers were called in to differentiate between AI-painted artwork and that produced by contemporary artists, they failed at the task, writes Mail Online.
