In the scientific quest to unearth how our Milky Way could evolve over time, a major headway was made recently after a team of researchers at the University of Toronto, for the first time, observed a magnetic “bridge” that connects two of our nearest galactic neighbors.

Theoretically, the existence of the Magellanic Bridge has been predicted long back by scientists but the evidence for the existence of such a magnetic field has been recorded for the first time, notes Science Alert.

The development could shed light on how these magnetic fields impact the evolution of galaxies and their environment, notes Phys.org.
