Physicists at Massachusetts Institute of Technology have created a new state of matter, called the Supersolid, which exhibits the properties of both solid and superfluid at the same time, opening up new possibilities for developing efficient energy transport mechanisms.

The new state of matter, derived by cooling Bose-Einstein to absolute zero, is rigid like a solid but flows with zero viscosity, which is a property of superfluids, writes Seeker.

Another group of researchers in Switzerland also realized the Supersolid but by a different approach, which indicates scientists’ keen interest in understanding this new form of matter, notes MIT News.
