Whirlpool’s new kitchen gadget seeks to rid people of a messy and stinky composting process. The company has developed a residential composting appliance that can turn food scraps into fertilizer in just 24 hours.

Named ‘Zera Food Recycler,’ the system comes with an automated and app-controlled unit that stirs and aerates the content, transforming it into usable fertilizer with the help of oxygen, heat, moisture and plant-based additive, writes Tree Hugger.

Unlike the conventional composting process that takes up to six months or more, Zera Food Recycler yields rich fertilizer in a day and doesn’t require extensive maintenance, notes Fast Company.
