Smart gadgets may be ruling the roost today but a new technique by a team of researchers at Carnegie Mellon University could overshadow the most sophisticated gadgets and appliances in the near future.

Gierad Laput and his colleagues have devised a “mega-sensor,” which makes a room smart enough to monitor all kinds of activities happening around, writes MIT Technology Review.

The device, which essentially combines a handful of sensors excluding an invasive camera vision, holds promise as a compact, capable and cheaper alternative to costly smart gadgets and wireless smart tags, notes ITB News.
