When researchers in most auto firms are fretting over designing a flawless autonomous vehicle, a robotic engineering student at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel has developed a portable robot that can take driver’s seat, turning any ordinary car into a self-driving machine.

The system, loaded with a few cameras, simple motion sensors and mechanical devices, runs on a powerful computer algorithm, notes Live Science.

Oded Yechiel, who designed the Intelligent Vehicle Operator weighing 33 pounds, calls it a generic system that’s good enough to utilize the fleet of worldwide cars in autonomous mode, notes Mic.
