U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday praised his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping for his efforts in pressuring North Korea to give up its nuclear and missile development program while adding that the Korea crisis may end up as a “major, major conflict.”

Trump reiterated his wish to solve the crisis diplomatically, preferably by imposing new economic sanctions on Pyongyang however, he left the option of military action open, writes Reuters.

Trump’s comment came as the U.N. Security Council meets to discuss North Korea on Friday, notes the BBC. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang, warned that the situation may deteriorate further if the meeting focuses only on slapping sanctions on Pyongyang.

In a separate development, the U.S. Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson said that China has conveyed its intentions to Pyongyang regime that it will be taking sanction actions against North Korea if another nuclear test is conducted, reports The Guardian.
