Social media giant recently revealed its ambitious project that involves a team of 60 engineers working on a brain-computer interface technology, which would allow users to type with their mind and hear with their skin.

The non-invasive system will be designed to type by scanning user’s brain waves, allowing a silent communication to take place with the speed and flexibility of voice and the privacy of text message, writes Science Alert.

For many neuroscientists, the two projects sound more of a science fiction as they lack details on how the mentioned optical techniques will be used to trigger direct neural activity, notes MIT Technology Review.

The demos at Facebook's consumer hardware lab known as Building 8 seek to restore the social media giant’s innovative spirit at a time when Facebook is being criticized for doing nothing more than aping Snapchat, reports Tech Crunch
